The past few weeks have been full of crazy and I’m sure that the next few weeks will also be crazy. I’ve made it a resolution to keep this blog updated, if only once a week–and I thought I’d post up a couple of updates re: writing and events and all that jazz.
1.) EM 4
We’re cooking up some stuff for EM Zine, Issue 4. I’ll make more announcements when things are sure na sure na sure na, but for now here’s the cover and our awesome layout this issue. Also, starting this issue we’re going to implement the issue editor thang–meaning every issue will be put together and curated by one member of the group. 🙂 This is exciting because it’ll also mean that that person can decide on the cover and whether or not the issue will be open for contributions or if it’ll have a theme.
This issue’s editor is my friend Noel Villa and if you haven’t read any of his stuff, you are seriously missing out. Noel’s writing is crazy, he’s crazy and the issue’s crazy–I mean that in the best way. It’ll be FFY‘s turn in April, Trizha Ko‘s in June, mine in August and Ron Recto’s in October.
The work I have in here is very weird (for me): most of it is stuff that I feel like I didn’t write. Although I guess that’s normal seeing as how 6 of these stories are filed under Stories For Other People, Part 1–these are basically the polished versions of the first stories I completed for the 2014 FB Art Challenge. These things in general aren’t my thing but it feels good to be trying new things. Among these, though there are some stories which I feel like I would’ve put out regardless (Notes to My Killer and Mirrors, Lenses). There are a total of 8 stories from me here, 6 of which belong to SFOP, Part 1. The other two are called Air Hunger and Recipes for Fear. I won’t say anymore, but I hope you guys enjoy them when the issue comes out. 😀
2.) Science Lessons, Volumes 2&3
I made a little announcement over Facebook about these two coming out this week but I’ve decided to push the project further back, into October of this year. I don’t want to say too much about it because you know how these things go–best not to say anything until you’re sure. 🙂 I am willing to share these preliminary cover studies that I made a few weeks ago, though.
I’m probably not going to use these, but I think something similar would be interesting. We shall seee, we shall see!
3.) Stories For Other People, Part 2
I’ve been working really hard on these. While Part 1 was an exercise in getting out of myself, I feel like these next ones will be less out-of-the-blue or less unlike something I would write. I am trying very hard to write something that I (along with the reader) woul really like to read. I feel like it can be done. Fingers crossed–I’m liking these so far. Oddly enough, a lot of these stories are more straightforward prose than I am used to but I don’t think this is a bad thing.
Also, instead of the usual .pdf thangs, I think I may just be posting new work up here. 🙂
